Every year Dr. Kelly arranges a service project that our tuition pays for and the VT students usually help work on it. This year we were going to paint the chalkboards in about 1/2 the classrooms at our school. On the second to last day before we left, students got to leave early so we could paint the chalkboards.
First we had to stir, and stir and stir the paint.

Many of the kids stayed after school to watch us. We gave them gloves to play with. This little boy is in my class, can you tell he is the class clown?
Kids peaking through the window to see what we were up too.
These kids were dismissed from this classroom, but many of them didn't want to leave. We had an audience watch us paint!
The younger standards (grades) don't have furniture. They sit on the floor in rows.
This is what most of the floors look like. The kids sit in holes all morning.

The teachers and students never complained about these poor learning environment conditions. No pencils, holes in roofs and floors, broken glass, minimal light, dirt, no materials.... all that is just a way of life for them. The teachers were thrilled to use their brand new chalkboards!
