Internet Service in Zomba

Happy Fourth of July to you all!

I actually called Lexi today on the phone. All is well in Malawi EXCEPT the server is down in Zomba. Peter of Annie's Lodge is working with the ISP to get things up and running and it may be a few days before she is able to post. Rest assured she is writing in her journal every night so we will have lots to read when the Internet is back up. In the meantime:

Teaching is going well. They are teaching the teacher as well as the students. The students bring gifts to the girls every morning: tomatoes, papayas, and such. They have taught the continents, the water cycle, earth and sun, rotation and revolution, greater than, less than, 'Sharks and Minnows", and the Hokey Pokey.
The weather is wonderful, warm, sunny days and cool nights.
Peter has arranged activities in the evenings like movie night and poker night so they are always busy.
Sunday, July 6 is 'Republic Day' the Malawi Independence Day, so Monday is a holiday. Malawi celebrates with dances and a soccer game with Kenya. She is hoping to meet with Jean one of those days.
Tomorrow the trip is half over.

Tricia,
I am Diana, Brenda's sister and Krista's aunt. I log on several times a day in hopes of an update - kinda like reading a good novel in anticipation of what the next chapter will bring! We all know what a great opportunity and experience this is for the students. Krista introduced Lexi and I last Fall during my visit to Blacksburg. She is very fond of Lexi and was looking forward to this trip with Lexi. I know in many ways it will be sad when they leave Africa, but they will surely come back bursting with the desire to share not so much as what they taught, but what they learned from this extraordinary experience.

Diana,
It is so nice to meet you!
I am glad I am not the only one checking several times a day for an update!
Lexi was looking forward to spending time with Krista as well. This experience will probably forge a lifetime friendship.
I can't wait to see them when they get home. Lexi is already talking about going back.
